I don’t know about you, but I have continuing education (CE) in several areas of my life. After many years in an industry it’s a pain to keep up with, but you have to do it.
In the past couple of years as I’ve started my speaking career, I joined the National Speakers Association (NSA) in Colorado and found that continuing education was a must, but because I was enthusiastic about the new career I was very interested in learning from those who knew the business very well. At NSA I’ve met many folks who are more than happy to help guide me down the path of success and it is most appreciated. One such speaker/trainer was Rob “Waldo” Waldman CSP who spoke at a recent NSA meeting. We shared some conversation when the meeting was over and he offered to help me with a specific problem I was having.
What was the keyword in the previous paragraph? It was “enthusiastic”. With excitement and enthusiasm and comes a “desire” to seek education and knowledge. If you’ve been in an industry
for a long time and plan on staying in it, you may need to find a renewed sense of adventure and excitement to rise above the complacency that often leads to a negative attitude. Finding new people to talk to about new ideas that may spark new ways to reinvent old systems may just be the ticket. Joining a new group or meetup that has a younger membership who are excited and energetic may give you the boost in your happiness level with your work once again…making CE more enticing.
Happiness in one’s work is almost mandatory for success and longevity. I’ve been in one industry for 40 years and I’m ready to semi-retire from it, but in the process I want to keep working to stay relevant, keep the feeling of purpose and continue to grow. Speaking and teaching the things I’ve learned in many years of life and business is a new passion that should keep me energized and excited for years to come…I really look forward to helping people find and maintain their happiness! I hope you find yours!
