I spoke to a large group last week, and during Q&A a gentleman asked me, “Do you think the intentions you wrote in your journal while in Nepal worked?” My answer to him was as long as I kept the intentions in the fore front of my planning they do and I can look back over the past twenty years to see the path I’ve taken to accomplish them.
Of course, sometimes they fall off our conscious radar, but if it was something I really wanted it was held in my subconscious and I can see where it re-appeared later when it was possible to be accomplished. We often make intentions that are not serious; we make them on a whim without etching them into our conscious or subconscious…those will fail.
Back in 1995 when I trekked through Nepal and made serious decisions about how I would live the rest of my life, I was etching deeply into my subconscious
because I thought about them daily for several weeks. As I review my journal from time to time I can see small intentions that came true without any effort on my part & others, which were much larger in my planning, that I had to pursue with conscious action to achieve.
The energy and power of intentions is much greater than most of us give credence to. We need to pay closer attention to the things we really want and how we pursue them. Many people use picture or vision boards that they put on the wall with photos of material objects they want or relationships they desire. These can keep your goals in front of you each day to remind you where you’d like to go in the weeks and years ahead. Others will meditate each day keeping those things upper most in their conscious and subconscious minds.
We can get sidetracked easily in our busy lives and forget where we want to go. It happens so quickly when we volunteer for a project or get asked to participate in a worthwhile charity event. Suddenly, you’ve taken on things that will stall your desires. They seem like things we would like to be part of and often are very kind and giving in nature and we feel guilty if we don’t join in, but as with everything in life we need prioritize our needs and our desires with intentions.
Have a great day!
