TRIP TIP #36 “Being Curious About the World!”
Hi, this is Keith Renninson “The Tenacity Expert”
professional speaker & author of the award-winning book “Tenacity, You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!”. I’m here with my next installment of my TRIP Tips for the financial services professional. Remember that TRIP is an acronym for TENACITY, RESILIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND PURPOSE. So, lets’ get started!
Having more than one purpose in life is exhilarating! You can have your work purpose, home purpose, spiritual purpose and a travel purpose.
Seeing how people live in far off places gives you a greater insight on our differences and similarities. We are more similar than you might think. All people are seeking to enrich their lives to make them feel free, fulfilled and to be happy. Being curious about them helps you step outside your own needs and makes you more interesting to others which will open a whole new world for you.
Sadly, I’ve known folks who have never traveled outside the continental United States. When you only see the cultural aspects of your immediate community, it becomes boring, and you will often focus on the negative. By engaging new people while traveling to a foreign country you will see other ways of life and instantly opens your eyes to many alternate possibilities.
Curiosity is a wonderful character trait if applied in a commonsense manner. Don’t be pushy about it, just use an approach of wanting to learn. I’ve found many people in other countries are eager to tell me about their customs, history, food and much more.
Using my TRIP Technique & Communication System you will find that curiosity fits in quite well. Foreign travel isn’t always easy, you have to be prepared to be tenacious, resilient, and imaginative in your purposeful quest for experience and knowledge. It was constantly in my face while I was lost in Nepal. But, it served me well in getting help and guidance. And, I came home with a wealth of memories to share with others.
My purpose in the beginning was to solve the mid-life and mid-career crisis I was facing back home. It became something entirely different as I moved from one small town to the next. I solved my problems by seeing the lifestyles and cultures of the Nepalese people. Overall, they are a happy lot even though their lives are anything but easy. Being curious about them opened many doors to meet and learn about people I would never have met otherwise or see again. I learned so much about life from them that it made my decisions easier when I got home.
Well, that’s it for this installment, I hope you have some new ideas on how to proceed. Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime.
See you next time, and in the meantime, consider some travel to assist you in understanding your own life and the lives of others half-way around the globe.
Goodbye!
Keith......
