Hi, this is Keith Renninson “The Tenacity Expert”
professional speaker & author of the award-winning book “Tenacity, You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!”. I’m here with my next installment of my TRIP Tips for the financial services professional. Remember that TRIP is an acronym for TENACITY, RESILIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND PURPOSE. So, lets’ get started!
While I was lost in Nepal I journaled and meditated each day.
These two activities kept me sane, calm and centered. They both offer ways to think and express yourself, to look for new ideas, to discover things about yourself, and resolve problems. My journaling came to me from multiple sources over the years, plus I watched my mother who wrote in diaries everyday of her life.
Have you ever heard of “free-writing”?
It is a tool used by writers who suffer getting started with an article, blog or chapter in a book. Journaling can be like that. You don’t want to just chronicle what’s going on in your life, you want to explore your ideas, feelings and experiences. Free-writing is a process where you take a thought in your mind that more-than-likely won’t have anything to do with your project and start writing. Say that you're sitting on your patio and have a thought about the bees landing on your flowers, and your project is on tips for hikers. You might start with “My flowers are beautiful in the morning sun and the bees are really buzzing around the blossoms. I’ve seen this type of activity on the mountain trails of Colorado when I hike.” Then you take off on your article about hiking. This method just helps you get going, and sometimes it will surprise you with new content that you didn’t start thinking about in the first place.
Meditating is also a useful exercise; it forces you to slow down and get quiet. We are all so wrapped up in our busy lives that life can speed past us without us noticing how quickly it's moving. Slowing down helps us to see what's going on inside of us, what issues surface and how they are affecting our thinking. Like journaling, meditating serves a multitude of needs. I use it to relax after a stressful day and recover my grounding. I will also use it after a hard bike ride to help my body unwind and release tension in muscles.
When you combine meditation and journaling, you get the best of both worlds which will provide you with clarity and understanding about your purpose. Keeping your purpose in the forefront of your thinking and planning through meditation and journaling will keep you on track to success. They work well with all four facets of my TRIP Technique™.
Well, that’s it for this installment, I hope you have some new ideas on how to proceed. Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime.
See you next time, and in the meantime, plan time to meditate and journal and watch the ideas flow to fulfill your ultimate purpose.
Goodbye!
Keith......
